Damage Prevention is a collaboration between National Grid and PowerSystems, working together to reduce damage to underground plant.

Our mission is to ensure safe systems of works are in place to protect the public and operatives and to reduce the number of strikes against utility plant. We will ensure that all parties are aware of utility issues within their specialist area and help companies achieve a safe and competent workforce.

The ultimate aim is to achieve zero damage to our plant and all utility apparatus. This website acts as a routing tool to provide essential information and advice.

Any utilities wishing to assist us in helping to promote damage prevention best practices can email us here.

This approach is currently underway in Edinburgh and the Lothians and is expected to expand to include the rest of Scotland.

This joint initiative to reducing damages offers many benefits:

  • Reduces injuries to operatives
  • Reduces customer interruptions
  • Reduces legal and environmental issues
  • Reduces repairs to our respective Networks
  • Keeps the integrity of our Networks intact
  • Keeps programmed works on target
  • Reduces the volume of repair bills
All these benefits, and many more, are achieved through strict adherence to HSG47 guidelines, Avoiding Danger around Underground Services'. Click the link to visit HSE Books website for details of purchasing the publication.
